Shanghai Film Festival-The Realistic Influence of Films

At the Shanghai Film Festival this year, at the forum of “Du Qifeng Dialogue Oliver Stone – The Realistic Influence of Films”, discussed the real impact of the film? In the context of the more obvious “business attributes” of today’s films, this question is even more difficult to answer.

Oliver Stone mentioned a company and two movies in Hollywood. The company is Disney. He believes that all the real elements of Disney’s films, such as history, have been beautified. This kind of beautification has even reached the level of “false”, which will give the audience a wrong understanding. The films mentioned are “General Patton” and “Saving Private Ryan”. He believes that these two films, under the banner of “anti-war”, are actually promoting the war, the “crazy” war scenes in the movie, the slightest Can’t see the reflection on the war.

On the contrary, what is expressed in these films is a kind of “respectful” mentality, which is a kind of publicity for the battlefield heroes. He believes that these films indirectly affect the American public’s views on modern wars such as the Vietnam War and the Iraq War. So what are the historical views and values that individuals should follow when shooting these real historical themes? His point of view is to present things as much as possible in the grand background, let the audience judge themselves, just like “Homer’s Epic”, it should be “from top to bottom” God’s perspective.

Looking at the 12th FIRST International Film Festival from behind the scenes

A film festival from start to finish is actually a very complicated and difficult process. This is especially true for the 12th FIRST International Film Festival. FIRST International Film Festival is an international film event held in Xining City, Qinghai Province in July, sponsored by Xining Municipal People’s Government and China Film Critics Society. FIRST Youth Film Show is dedicated to promoting the early works of young filmmakers and encouraging awards.

Since 2006, FIRST has continued to introduce valuable new directors to the industry, and these new faces continue to bring surprises to the film industry. Different regions and cities, different cultural contexts, and different image explorations make us feel The sharpness and power of the film, tender and lively.

For the FIRST International Film Festival, they must make changes because of the Chinese government’s control over movies and other publications. In order to evade the provisions of the “Movie Industry Promotion Law”, “the film can be taken into the film festival (exhibition)”. The CEO of the FIRST International Film Festival in volunteer mobilization meeting, said: “There is no screenings, the movie can not be seen, and will not be discussed, the festival will die.”

However, they only by breaking through the difficulties, can the audience see the excellent movies and get the attention of those excellent movies. This is the meaning of the film festival.

MIFF – A place to learn about culture

By Yuyang Gong

Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) is Australia’s first international film festival and one of the most influential international film festivals in the Southern Hemisphere. It is also one of the oldest film festivals in the world.

MIFF is my first close encounter with the film festival, the way I used to know the film festival was online news. The news reported that the director’s film won the award and the theme of their film has received a high degree of attention. I thought that attending the film festival was a goal far away from me. I bought a movie ticket online and watched a movie in MIFF – UNDERMINED: TALES FROM THE KIMBERLEY, my understanding of the film festival has changed.

This time, the viewing experience is completely different than when I was watching a movie in a cinema. Before the film opened, there were long queues outside the cinema, and the back seat of the cinema was full.  After the host and the director gave a presentation, the film began to show. In this documentary, the director tells the conflict between an Aboriginal living environment and cultural preservation in mineral development and livestock development from an Aboriginal perspective. All viewers may come from different industries, from different countries, but are attracted by the stories in the film.

The most exciting thing is that after the movie ended, the movie starring sang a song for us, and the Q&A. The direct question and answer interaction between the audience and the director is also one of the charms of participating in the festival.

By participating in the film festival, I found that the film festival is not only the quality of the selection works, but also one of the most direct ways to understand customs and culture, regional issues. Through the director’s lens, with the fascinating story, let the audience be attracted by the plot and understand the information that the film wants to convey. This is one of the purposes of the film and film festival.
