A simple shell, an inner treasure—— Nepal International Film Festival

How can make a good movie? A popular young star? Expensive equipment? Massive investment sponsorship? What should the opening of the film festival be like? Luxury cars, gowns, bright atmosphere? It seems that none of this has happened in Nepal International Film Festival, but the film itself has brought great spiritual shock and enjoyment to the audience.

Nepal has a high happiness index, although it is not a developed country, but the people there are not slow, always do things with enjoyment. They even did not start on film festivals or even opening in Pokhara. But the filmmakers there worked very hard.

The Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF) is an international grand prix event that showcases film narratives, stories and inspirations. NIFF brings together inspiring and socially conscious films from around the world and provides Nepalese audiences with a platform to watch and inspire them. The selection process is the most important part of NIFF. During the four-day film festival, awards for selected works from around the world were broadcast during which the awards for the best films were awarded. NIFF is not only a gathering of filmmakers from around the world to share, but also a gathering of Nepalese and filmmakers from around the world to exchange experiences, ideas and film production techniques. NIFF will also host various master courses, film project ventures, and invite overseas film experts to teach.niff

The executive chairman of the festival is himself a director. When he is not filming, he should hurry to do the film festival. Indian director Amir Khan told Time magazine: “I was born in this country, it’s my helplessness! If the next generation is the same, it’s my incompetence. ” The Nepalese filmmakers share almost the same ideals as Amir Khan.

Have you ever seen an opening ceremony of film festival just like this?

Even in the movie theater of Nepal International Film Festival, there are no projectors, only projectors. 观影

But all this did not come to an end when the film festival opened. The light and shadows in the film are full of layers. The costumes and props in the scene express their culture exquisitely, and the language is so accurate. The best short film of 2018 is a short film called ‘Jaal Gedi’. Jaal Gedi

In this short film, all the children and adults’ performances are so real, the scenery is permeated with the beauty of nature, the sun gives the children outlined a Phnom Penh, sports lens, humorous details, the starring girl is only a director of a mountain teaching students. The director spent only 4,000 dollars. They filmed it for four days. They cut it and mixed it up in two days. There were only six people on the team.

And the audience of the festival, most of them are middle school students, they wear neat school uniforms, seriously watching the film. In the movie, every small detail appears, the audience is enthusiastic. At the end of the last note, no one would have thought that the audience had not applauded yet, and the audience had applauded so madly that they drowned out the applause on the screen.

An International Film Festival can be held with a projector, but there are professional judges, sincere viewers, and films that hit the heart. Four days of Film Festival, 50 movies from 30 countries. Nepal’s education, whether it’s movies or these high school students, seems to be on the road of informatization, and they will leap across the industrial revolution to the world.

SIFF: let art films find audiences, and let audiences see more movies

At the Shanghai International Film Festival in 2018, literary and artistic films became a hot word, and the prospect and potential of artistic films also seemed promising. In the report of domestic film audience satisfaction survey, although the box office income of small and medium-cost literary and artistic films is not high, but these films in the Chinese film audience satisfaction survey have been satisfactorily evaluated ticket prices, spectators have reached a consensus on the need to upgrade their viewing needs. In SIFF, a new model emerges and is discussed.

“Elephant spot” application creates new mode of C2B distribution

Now there is a way for audiences to raise chips. This way can connect audiences and movies more closely. For example, ‘My poem’ has been released in theaters, and the 2 million declaration fee has been wasted. Unwilling to do so, the team tried to launch a crowdsourcing show on the Internet, with thousands of screenings across the country, allowing viewers to find the movie they wanted to see spontaneously.大象

(You can choose what you want to see, the time, the cinema in Elephant Shot app.)

“Launch a movie viewing activity on the platform, the viewer becomes the organizer, can choose which cinema to set, when to set, want to invite friends to see the film, this is from the past B2B into the supermarket to grab shelves mode, changed, the audience decided to set the film, the right to set the film to the audience.” This is the subversion of the movie’s distribution by means of Internet technology. “The market mainstream mode of publicity and distribution, the film side to spend a lot of money for more resources. But for literary films and documentaries, it will be very difficult. We must spend limited resources on cinema and film. The pattern is not right. It is difficult to work hard one by one.

(The initiator of Elephant Shot app)

The point-to-line and wide-spread pattern not only allows viewers to see the films they want to see on their own, but also makes the filmmakers themselves happy. Through this new model, the film-makers, cinemas and audiences are connected in series to complete the precise matching of the needs of all parties: the producers’ publicity costs are reduced, the threshold of film distribution and investment risks are greatly reduced; the attendance rate of cinemas is increased, and the differential management brings sustainable benefits; the individualized demand for viewing films is also met.

At the same time, it also completes social interaction in the process of viewing and communicating — viewers spend an hour and a half watching movies, but it may take two or even three hours to communicate after the screening. At the end of a movie viewing, the audience has already completed a deep social interaction in the process.

No movie can live without a screening. Find the right eyes, the right people, from convening, sponsoring, reviewing, gathering because of the film, these audiences are ready to come, knowledgeable about the film, curious about the possibilities, have requirements for different films, for the creator is very valuable. And through this model, in the past art festivals cannot cover the small cities, but also spontaneously by fans to “organize” theme activities, even if a “18 line” city fans, can also according to their own ideas and preferences, planning and launching a ‘film festival’. From this point of view, the relationship between audience and Film Festival is inseparable.

Chinese director, Zhangke Jia, founded the Pingyao International Film Festival (PYIFF)

In the past, when it came to good influential movies, it was easy to think of Hollywood movies or Japanese movies or Indian Bollywood movies. But now Chinese films are growing at a speed that cannot be underestimated.

What is a good movie? Those movies that really come from life are good movies, because life is the best script. Ash is Purest White, Still Life, Mountains may depart. These are all very popular Chinese movies. They are all made by outstanding Chinese directors, Zhangke Jia. Without being a star, without a gorgeous background, only a few people’s ordinary life, is a high score film.

Zhangke Jia, a non-governmental director from the grassroots level in China, pursues the image of “penetrating the reality of the image”. He is a maverick, using camera language to depict the cost and fate of ordinary people in an era of great social transformation. He bluntly criticized the lack of attention to real life in contemporary Chinese films: the fourth generation was obsessed with ethics, the fifth was obsessed with historical fables, the sixth was intoxicated in urban rock and roll, the Chinese film group surrendered to Hollywood, sinking into the vague unrealistic themes, Zhangke Jia was strong in Chinese reality. Intense humanistic concern is particularly valuable. Jia Zhangke’s image world is gradually becoming a special way to understand China and reinterpret the realism of Chinese films.

Zhangke Jia also founded the Pingyao Film Festival, with former Venice Film Festival chairman (PYIFF), renowned Italian film critic and historian Mark Muller as its art director. Film festival will mainly show non-Western films, aimed at enhancing the contact and cooperation between Chinese films and non-western, developing country film practitioners. The first Pingyao International Film Festival was held in the ancient city of Pingyao, Shanxi Province, from October 28 to November 4, 2007.

Pingyao is the hometown of director Jia Zhangke. In order to enhance audience participation, the PYIFF has set up an audiences’ evaluation system at the Pingyao International Film Festival. The audiences who have watched all the films have participated in the selection and selected the “most popular film” among the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, the premiere, the most popular film at the Film Festival and the “most popular actor” and “the most popular film” among the five units of the Cenozoic era in China. Commended the actress. The finalists of the first Pingyao International Film Festival come from 18 countries and regions respectively. The film originates from all over the world, which fully reflects the professional orientation of “small stature, big pattern” of PYIFF.

Like many international film festivals, PYIFF also features a retrospective/exhibition module, with the theme of Jean-Pierre Melville’s Centennial Retrospective Exhibition in 2017. At the press conference, Art Director Marco Muller officially released 10 film lists for the retrospective, including “A Day in the Clown’s Life”, “Silence of the Sea”, “When You Read This Letter”, “Gambler Bob”, “Father Leon Mohan”, “Eyeliner”, “Solo Killer” and “Shadow Army”. “Red Circle” and “Police Officer” ten latest restoration films, a comprehensive range of director Melville in different periods of film creation.

A new thinking about MIFF triggered by a movie

In my mind, when it comes to the festival, the things that pop up are the red carpet, the shining stars and the gorgeous costumes. Because I only focus on something superficial, but don’t think about the significance behind the film festival. However, when I learned some knowledge about film festival, I had a rethink about it. A complete film festival consists of film professionals, the cinemas, stars, cinephiles, trade magazines and so on. A good film festival can create a lot of value. It can serve as a gatekeeper and taster, presenting a wide range of films for the audience, including feature films, short films, documentaries, animated films, experimental films and multimedia films. It can be used as a brand of the city, and also bring great benefits to the city.

The Melbourne International Film Festival is Australia’s first International Film Festival. The venue is held in Melbourne once a year for two weeks. The main purpose of Melbourne International Film Festival is to understand the film situation in the world, to promote close cooperation between Australian film workers and foreign film workers, and to contribute to the development of Australian film industry. Every year, Melbourne Film Festival shows a wide range of local films to celebrate the brilliant achievements of the film and to commend the artistic contributions made to all areas of the film industry. The festival will show about 300 films in 18 days and present the latest developments in Australian and international film circles, presenting a wide range of films from all over the world, often fresh and highly controversial. MIFF also has its own economic capital, social capital, cultural capital and symbolic capital.,

On August 8, my friends and I went to MIFF and watched a movie called Undermined: tales from the Kimberley. It is a documentary, directed by Nicholas Wrathall, about the real cost of development in the world’s famous Kimberley, where huge mining and pastoral developments threaten not only the primitive environment, but also the sacred ties of more than 200 indigenous communities and their people to the state. The invasion of large numbers of immigrants, the over-exploitation of resources and the destruction of the environment have all caused hardship to the lives of the Australian aborigines. I saw people feeling sad and angry, fighting bravely and protesting. After the movie, applause continued. It was a good film because it drew people to think, to use resources, to respect the aborigines, to protect the environment, to support power. So as gatekeeper and taster, the festival does not leave some popcorn movies, but brings some deeper meanings to the film. There are many other interesting movies in MIFF, such as Old beast, an elephant sitting still, Une Affaire de Famille… These movies may not be the kind of beautiful and harmonious films, but it must reflect some phenomenon, let people think. It may be depressed, but it is an example of real existence and society. Maybe after watching the movie, people will think about certain phenomena and some groups. Such a film is a good film in my heart, and the movie that promotes change is worth respecting.

This time many films at MIFF I feel very worth watching, may not have the opportunity to watch in the cinema, the back of the line has resources I will certainly see. What is your view plan?
